By now you will have seen the internet going nuts over the supposed new romance between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. Taylor attended one of his NFL games and social media exploded. His merchandise sales increased by 400% in one day…talk about Taylor being good for business. I am really wondering is this actually a legitimate new romance or is this an elaborate PR stunt? I haven’t even seen them share a kiss so I am calling bullshit until I see some hard-core evidence of this supposed ‘relationship.’
I know that Taylor has had approximately 27 boyfriends since she burst into the public consciousness in 2008. (not sure about the actual number but there have been a few) Not to mention the many many hits that have been written following all these contentious breakups with these LOSERS. (No man will ever be good enough for our queen Tay Tay). That is why, I will despite all the barriers against us, forever be a ‘Gaylor Theorist’
The ‘Gaylor’ theory, as it’s affectionately called by Swifties, began to gain traction around 2014 when Taylor Swift and Karlie Kloss’s friendship became highly visible. The two celebrities were frequently seen together, sharing photos on social media and making public appearances side by side. Fans couldn’t help but notice the intense chemistry between the two, which often extended beyond the boundaries of a typical friendship. (I mean the vogue shoot…I don’t cuddle my straight friends like that…all I’m saying) They way that they looked lovingly into each other’s eyes…does it get any better or gayer?
Taylor and Karlie’s interactions on social media only fueled the speculation even more. They posted countless pictures of each other, often accompanied by affectionate captions. Taylor even referred to Karlie as her “ride or die” in one Instagram post. While these interactions could certainly be seen as nothing more than close friendship, fans began to wonder if there was more to their relationship.
Some of the lyrics in her songs also had me questioning if there was some underlying meaning. The lyrics include lines like “You’ve got that long hair slicked back, white T-shirt” and “We never go out of style.” These lines could be referring to Karlie, who is known for her distinctive long hair and effortless style. Also, it is my opinion that ‘The Way I Loved You’ is an absolute lesbian anthem and I know it was released prior to the ‘Kaylor’ years but just the way this song could be interpreted as having intense feelings for women makes me really wonder about all of this…just saying.
Of course, I will acknowledge that this theory is built on the interpretation of various clues and breadcrumbs that fans believe Taylor has left for us. It’s essential to note that these interpretations are speculative, and there has been no official confirmation from Taylor Swift or Karlie Kloss regarding the theory. (YET) But what an iconic moment for queer women if one day Taylor admitted that she had been in a relationship with a woman, it would truly be a magical moment for us.
Whilst there have been so many incidents of Gaylor fans pouring over Taylor’s lyrics and identifying what could be hidden messages about her harboring secret feelings for Karlie. More importantly, there was the infamous Kissgate incident where they seemed to kiss at a concert. A fan in the crowd below took some videos of them and caught this scene where it looked like Taylor and Karlie kissed. (Looks like a kiss to me…) Once again…not something that I would do with just a friend.
They also lived together for god’s sake. Karlie had a room at Taylor Swift’s multi-million dollar apartment. This is also believed to be the start of the demise of their relationship as it is rumoured that Karlie invited people over to Taylor’s without asking her first. #dykedrama
Add in the fact that they look like sisters (classic lesbian thing) and that they are now mortal enemies and it just adds to the fact that I really believe they had a love more intense than ‘just best friends’. It is sad to see that they now so obviously have bad blood and Karlie’s manager is Scooter Braun which seems like the ultimate betrayal. (not to mention Karlie now has a husband and baby so clearly she has found love again)
Ultimately whether there is any truth to the Gaylor theory or not, I really do hope that Taylor finds happiness. Whether that is with a 7 foot NFL player or another blonde bombshell.
